  17. <p>A nonsurgical treatment for infertility should have men sighing
  18. with relief
  19. </p>
  20. <p>     Few people think that Radiologists can actually treat medical
  21. conditions; they handle the X rays. Maybe patients should think
  22. again, particularly men with an infertility problem: varicose
  23. veins in the testes. About 15% of men have such abnormalities,
  24. which apparently heat the testicles and damage sperm.
  25. </p>
  26. <p>     Radiologists can often solve the problem. Using their skill
  27. with X-ray imaging to guide them, they make a needle puncture
  28. into a vein in the groin and thread a very thin tube to the
  29. testes. The doctors then seal off the varicose veins with coils
  30. or chemicals that are sent through the tube. Johns Hopkins
  31. researchers reported that of 71 couples in which the man had
  32. had the procedure and his partner no infertility treatment, 60%
  33. of the women got pregnant.
